Does microcement crack?
Properly installed, no. Cracking comes from movement in the substrate below, which is why we bed a fibreglass mesh into the base coats across every joint, corner and change of plane, and why we resin-fill existing cracks first. Skipping the mesh is the single most common reason cheap microcement fails.
Do you have to visit before you can quote?
No. Send us photos of the room and a slow video walk-through on WhatsApp — corners, the shower zone, anywhere the floor changes level — and we can price the job from that, usually the same day. It is how most of our quotes start now. If we need to see something in person before committing to a fixed price, we will say so and come out free of charge.
Can it go over my existing tiles?
Yes — that is one of the main reasons people choose it. As long as the tiles are firmly bonded, we key and prime them and work straight over the top. We only lift tiles when they are drummy or the levels are badly out.
Is it fully waterproof in a shower?
Yes — fully waterproof, not merely water-resistant. Showers and wet rooms are sealed with Cementec Finish Forte Plus, a two-part polyurethane the manufacturer rates as 100% waterproof and chemical resistant. There is no separate membrane buried underneath that can fail out of sight: the surface you can see and clean is the surface doing the waterproofing, and that is what the 15-year warranty is written against.
How long will my house be out of action?
Four to seven days on site for a typical bathroom or open-plan floor. You can walk on it lightly 24 hours after the final seal, put furniture back after 72 hours, and it reaches full chemical cure at around seven days.
How much does it cost?
Floors run £130–£170 per m² +VAT. Bathrooms and wet rooms are priced as a room rather than by the metre, from £3,500 for a compact or medium bathroom and from £5,500 for a large wet room. Worktops are £250–£320 per m². Minimum project value is £3,500 +VAT. The calculator above gives you a real range in thirty seconds.
Does it work with underfloor heating?
Very well. At 2–3 mm it has far less thermal mass than tile or stone, so the floor warms up faster and costs less to run. We add a decoupling layer and commission the heating with a slow ramp-up schedule before coating.
How do I clean and maintain it?
A pH-neutral cleaner and a damp mop. No bleach, no acids, no steam mops. We hand over a starter kit at completion. On floors we recommend a fresh top seal every five to seven years — a one-day job, no disruption.
What does the 15-year warranty cover?
Delamination, cracking that originates in our build-up, and failure of the seal under normal domestic use — the things that are ours to get right. It is written, signed and handed over on completion. Fifteen years is longer than anyone else in the North West offers; we can do it because of how the substrate is prepared and meshed before a drop of microcement goes down. Accidental damage, abrasive cleaners and building movement outside the finished surface are excluded, and the exclusions are on the same sheet — nothing buried in small print.
